Our Story
It all started when one of our friends stopped by with a friendly stray cat that had been hanging around her house. It was winter and the cat was pregnant. Our friend felt bad for the cat and had been feeding her for a short time. She wasn’t able to keep her because her husband and kids are allergic to cats. She didn’t want the cat and the unborn kittens to die out in the cold. She also knew we were cat lovers so she brought her to us. Of course we said we would take care of her until she had her kittens and then adopt them all out.
We never had a pregnant cat before so we started to get excited about the kittens. Everyone loves kittens! We tried to guess when she would deliver and how many kittens she would have. We had no idea how far along in the pregnancy she was. We took her to the vet and he said she was due any day and that she would have anywhere from 5 to 8 kittens.
The 5 kittens were born April 4th, 2009. Unfortunately, no one was home to witness the actual birth. We got home about 1 to 2 hours after the birth, we think. Momma kitty, as we call her, was cleaning the kittens. Even before their eyes opened they were immediately able to nurse. It was amazing to watch them develop. It seemed like they got a little bigger every day.
One day we got a package in the mail and cut some holes in the box knowing that kittens love to play in boxes. We noticed the kittens were popping their heads in and out which reminded us of the Whack-A-Mole game you played when you were a kid. We said this would make a cute video so we decorated the box and made a soft mallet and filmed the video. 5 adorable kittens and a few sound effects and Whack-A-Kitty was created! We posted it to YouTube and it just took off.
Whack-A-Kitty has been featured on Fox News and CNN and has become an international phenomenon.
